What is the Business Resilience Council?

The Business Resilience Council (BRC) is a member-driven, analyst-supported, multi-sector community created to foster sharing and cooperation regarding significant incidents, threats and vulnerabilities that impact business operations.

The BRC provides members with business continuity, disaster response, resilience information and best practices on physical security issues such as major weather events, pandemics and other natural disasters, as well as geopolitical threats, civil unrest and terrorism. The BRC also focuses on destructive malware attacks that can result in the major disruption of integrated IT or OT systems.

The BRC is designed for businesses with regional, national and international footprints that must manage significant crises and navigate response scenarios in order to maintain business operations.

The BRC in the Energy Sector

The BRC supports networks within the energy, financial, healthcare, and other industries. The BRC prepares Situation Reports on critical events within each sector, which have interdependencies and shared systemic risk. Past reports by the BRC's analysts and resilience specialists have documented worldwide events such as the energy crisis in India, Iran's nuclear program expansion, the COVID-19 pandemic (and the recent spread of the Omicron variant) and vaccination rates, inflation and its effect on the global supply chain, and cyber/ransomware attacks such as the Colonial Pipeline attack.

The BRC also provides access to webinars which highlight industry specific current events. Recently, members had the opportunity to participate in the "Seasonal Vulnerabilities to the Energy Sector" webinar.
